Should a city try to preserve its old, historic buildings or destroy them and replace them with modern buildings?
It is not rare to see that old, historic buildings are destroyed in order to build new and modern ones. Some people insist on replacement of the old buildings, for the reason that a building constructed several centuries ago is not strong enough to support itself and may cause damage to citizens. The idea is strongly opposed by people who indicate that it is a money-consuming project to rebuild modern buildings, especially skyscrapers, and old buildings, which symbolize different periods of development of the city, are historic sites of significant value to preserve. From my perspective, I totally agree with the latter idea.

No issue is more crucial than the one that construction of modern buildings would cost plenty of money which is sure a heavy burden for the local government. No one can deny that it is more essential to solve problems such as protecting forests from disappearance. As far as I am concerned, deforestation would cause a series of other damages like animals’ extinction due to destruction of their habitats. Consequently, from my own viewpoint, the big sum of money would be better invested into such areas mentioned above, which is meaningful to our world.

Historic value is another head and chief reason I prefer to put here. Old buildings are often associated with impressive events in the past such as war and peace, struggling for independence, scientific achievements. To give as a demonstration, in America, the building where Lincoln’s office located would recall people living in the duration of civil war memories of the fierce and cruel scenes in order to emancipate the slaves. When people are reminded of the war, they might be shocked in the heart and have a deep feeling how precious today’s life is! Therefore, such buildings act as a positive educational role in promoting democracy and world peace.

Though preservation of old building enjoys numerable advantages, it also has its own demerit. Old buildings, which aged at least several centuries, tend to be vulnerable through decades of erosion from chemical substance, such as various types of acids. It is a hazardous threat to people’s security of life and treasure because it may collapse at some day!

All in all, though the advantages of constructing modern buildings enjoys are considerable, it cannot compete with the benefits preservation of old ones leads to, when the two main reasons mentioned above are taken into consideration. Some people may still remain unconvinced, the reasons I have analyzed could at least make them more aware of the various dimensions of the issue under discussion. In fact, not only do I prefer to preserve old buildings, but also prefer to renew those which are not strong enough to hold itself and may break down one day.

Many cities that have old, historic buildings confront such a choice, whether these buildings should be replaced with modern ones. It makes controversy among people. Some civilians cited that these old buildings have identified the history of the city. Thus the administration should pay more attention and more money to preserve these buildings for such reasons as follows:
These buildings are very rare due to that they are evidences of history. For example, some buildings are the prisons that the colonists built during the war. The buildings are the evidences to illustrate and make all the people in the world never forget that period of time so that they will more treasure the present piece and avoid another war to happen. And some other buildings are the sites that are built hundreds of years ago where a king lived there. So they are good places where experts all over the word to study that period of history. How exiting it is to know the past when we did not exist on the earth. In brief, the value of old buildings cannot be measured with money.
Moreover, the historic buildings can attract people outside the country to visit the buildings and lead large income for the city. For instance, two thirds of the income of the city that I live comes from the traveling referring to old buildings. Thus, you can see that the old buildings can help the city to construct its economic system.
However, the historic buildings also bring some challenges to the city because of its high cost of preservation. It is the main reason why the administration wants to destroy these building and build modern ones. Yet it is obviously that once old buildings were destroyed, it would hardly be repaired. And the cost of preservation can be covered by the income of the visiting referring to the old buildings. Thus it is superficial for the administration to determine to replace the old buildings for a short –time profit without carefully consideration.
To sum up, it is clear that the old historic buildings should be carefully preserved because of their value of both history and economics.

blowing  and  seabirds  are  singing . Of  couse  we  like  this  small  French  town  also  because  there  are  
many  great  French  restallrants . They  offer  the  best  seafood  in  the  world  like  lobsters  and  tuna  frishes .
We  are  enjoy  this  French  small  towm . This  trip  to  facilitate  the  communication  between  us .

Recently, there is a controversial issue about whether to build more modern buildings instead of old building or not. Some people hold the idea of destroying the historic building in our city, they believe that these tradition buildings are not as useful as newly technology buildings and are not in accord with industrialized city image. However, this opinion is now being questioned by more and more city residents, who argue that historic buildings are just what we need to protect. From my point of view, I will agree that later one is more reasonable.


One of the primary causes is historic buildings keep record of the different developments and changes of a city. One famous person ever said:“every building has its own memory.” I am strongly impressed by this sentence. My old grandmother always reminds of her childhood and told me the stories that happened long long time ago when she saw the familiar buildings. This case is not rare, in reality, frequently the majority of old buildings will tell every person every unique city story with its own language. Therefore, we should cherish this memory and protect our precious old architectures.

Moreover, some valuable historic buildings, to some degree, will attract tourists from all over the world and accelerate the development of local economics. Take Paris France as an example, it is well known to all that there are a large amount of fantastic historic buildings in France like Eiffel Tower, Palais Garnier. Hundreds of thousands tourists fall in love with romantic Paris because of its gorgeous and charming historic architectures. Owing to this old buildings, traveling business become one of the major pillar industries of Paris. This demonstrates the undeniable fact that the conservation of historic buildings will benefit our city generation.

Admittedly, as a proverb says: “one coin has two sides”. It is undoubtedly that there are a couple of advantages of building more modern buildings such as bringing various conveniences to local people, making the city industrialize, but I still think the disadvantage are more obvious, because nobody would like to admit that the memory of the city should be wiped away.

In conclusion, taking account of all these factors and recognizing the fact, we may find out that the benefit of protect the historic building outweigh destroy it. Therefore, from what has been discussed above, we may safely come to conclusion that choosing conservation of historic building is a rather wise decision.
