Many people consider themselves shy. In fact, forty percent of people who took part (in our survey调查 said) they were shy---that`s two (out of every) five people. And (there are) studies (to) indicate that the tendency toward shyness may be in (inherited). But just because certain children are (timid羞怯的) dosen`t mean that they are (doomed命中注定) to be shy forever. (There are things) parents, teacher, and the children themselves can do to (overcome战胜) this tendency---and even to prevent it.) G4 ^% z5 N2 W! C4 c5 P

6 n% u8 r, J3 E2 [4 T/ B0 Q4 FOne research found that (if) parents gently put their shy children to try new things, they can help these children become less (afraid) and less (inhibited羞怯的). Another way to help shy children is to (train) them (in) socail skills. For example, there are special training groups where children (are taught things like) looking at other children while talking to them, talking about others people`s interests and even smiling.

5 b2 W4 Q# E- }) AYou might think that most of the patients (at sleep clinic) are being treated for sleeplessness, <commonly> referred to as insomnia, but that is not the case. The majority of sleep-clinic patients suffer from (disorders混乱 of) excessive sleep---or “hypersomnia”. While most insomnia somehow manage to drag themselves through the day and founction (acceptable), although not (optimal最佳的), levels, this is not so for people who suffer from hypersomnia.

They are <incapacitated> by (irresistible不可抵抗的 urges) to sleep during the day, often (inappropriate) situations---at business meetings, in supermarkets, or paties. Even more dangerous is their failure to remain (awake) when driving or operating <machinery>. Falling asleep in such situations could obviously be (life-)threatening./ m+ q; q$ B1 T

Many hypersominacs suffer from (narcolepsy嗜眠发作), for which the primary (symptom症状) is exessive daytime sleepiness. Though not (apparent) in childhood, this symptom most often appears for the first time during the (teen青少年) years and continues throughout the person` life. The sleep (attacks) may occur as many as fifteen to twenty times during the course of the day and lasts for periods from fifteen minutes up to two hours.- r$ e5 }; k' e7 D

What can be done to help those suffering from narcolepsy? There are certain drugs that can help, and (specialists专科医师) suggest voluntary (napping) to decrease the frequency发生次数 of such sleep attacks.

7 h8 i) r5 K: V" ^4 Q' q7 f: fDid you know you can catch a mood? A bad mood isn`t spread by a (virus病毒) like the (flu流行性感冒 is), but it can be <contagious>. Moods (sort) of drift from person to person <unconsciously不知不觉>---(slight), unintentional signals carry the mood.4 X% W9 d: d# ]4 H* j+ r  B

You`ve probably experienced (it) yourslef. You`re around someone who`s feeling down and showing it…(slumped萎靡不振的) showders, (downcast气馁的) mouth, (subdued声音轻的) voice---all that (sort of) thing. Pretty soon you begin to feel the depressed too---of course, good moods are also catching, not (just) bad ones.4 V2 G1 }- y# A: A1 W" P! K, g

. e, i" z" k  I1 E+ `+ V. @, ZMoods spread in steps. One person`s (facial脸部的 expression or) whatever is observed by another, who then unconciously begins to mimic. The process is automatic---(a split second第二次分裂?) mimicry. The person isn`t even aware the copying. A full(-blown充分发展的;具有一切特征的;完全成熟的 case of) mood transfer develops as this copying continue.  I' U6 N( f# A6 e! }% e
/ \* n1 s% r  z
Not everyone picks up the mood to the same degree. Those who`re most (susceptible易动感情的,易受影响的) often have strong physiological responses to what`s going on around them. You know, people who break out (in a) nervous (sweat出汗 easily and whose stomachs churn翻腾,剧烈搅动). 5 C9 k  m. g/ ~. b) x: n4 t1 C
$ T. V( ]& p- ~0 y6 s6 E
People don`t all send moods equally well either. The best mood senders are expressive people because mood <contagion蔓延> can`t happen without signals. If they aren`t there---that is, the person gives (no indication) of mood (they`re in)
3 s9 l; [& p0 m3 F. I3 x[连读得很怪]---nobody will pick up the mood.
