29. Some people believe that the Earth is being harmed (damaged) by human activity. Others feel that human activity makes the Earth a better place to live. What is your opinion? Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer.
As the six billion aboard Earth marches into the new millennium, our society is viewed as more civilized than that of any other era. However, an ongoing debate raged on between many, some believed that the Earth is being harmed by human activity while a number of others agreed on the fact that human activity has made Earth a better place to live. Well, from my standing, I believe that on an issue like this, human is both an angel and a devil.
Human activity has pushed the society to progress thus making Earth a more advanced and civilized part of the universe. Earth is different now, away from its past as an uncivilized planet, leaving a new page of history every minute. From the pyramids at Giza to the Great Wall in China, from the light bulbs of Thomas Edison to the plane of the Wright brothers and from the Empire State building that towers New York to the Great Dams of San Xia in China, the footprints of human activity have had revolutionary effects on Earth, taking both our planet and us to a brand new height. It has ever since reshaped Earth’s landscape and the way we humans live on Earth. Our lives have been changed, for now and for ever, human activity has enabled us to fulfill our wonderful dreams, survive on Earth and lead our lives the style we have always wanted to.
Well, positive progress and negative effects are always two sides of the same coin; they appear side to side to each other. Forest destructions, animal extinctions and environmental hazards like the El Nino do come by too with our rapid progress of human activities. Human activities play a critical role that should be responsible for the various types of pollution and destruction to the untouched part of Earth, such as the degeneration of the Amazon forest and the bleaching of the Great Barrier Reef. Human activities should always be responsible for these terrible effects that are gradually taking their toll off us.
On the other side of the same story, we have realized our industrial misdeeds, and have planned ever since to rejuvenate Mother Earth with our own conservation efforts. Every soul is on the scene of actions to perform his or her duty to help save Earth. This is where human activities marked its prints and promised the world a better outlook.
We can never judge a person by appearance or a book by its cover, and the same theory sounds reasonable when we come to judge human activities on Earth. What we have before our eyes are the perspectives of our minds, so if we look at the situation regarding human activities, the story goes winding.
