TOPIC: Is it true that the challenging job always brings people more pleasure
WORDS: 412 TIME: 00:45:00 DATE: 2008-5-2 22:15:28
Is it true that the challenging job always brings people more pleasure? I am quite doubtful about this statement. It depends on the person who does the job. But generally speaking, the challenging job is usually companied with tears and frowns instead of smiling faces.

Naturally, for the people who value risk-taking and advanture as the greatest enjoyment, a challenging job is exactly what they want. They can have the thrill by getting involved in the constant challenges. It may even be hard to say which is more pleasant to them- the satisfaction after handling the challenge or the moments of being challenged. Just as Chairman Mao Zedong once said, there was endless pleasure in the struggle against the nature and enemy.

But in a common sense, the challenging job is always a hot potato, which gives us more worry than happiness.

For one thing, if a job is too demanding, it is a signal that the person may be not fit for the job. Why is the job challenging? Often, it's because others have expections beyond the person's ability. Sometimes, it's because the person's charactor contradicts the requirement of his/her postion. It's just like square peg in the round hole. How can a person be happy in this situation? I think the person had better change a job or make some adjustment instead of bearing the challenge, which is actually a great torment.

What's more, there is always danger hiden in the challenging jobs. We call something challenge because we are not sure of the result. Most of the jobs in this world require steady performance and quality. It is all right for the mountain climers to fail a task and still remain high spirit. But if a manager of a big company has to face the challenge of financial deficit today and handle the challenge of trade conflicts tomorrow, and the challenge never ceases to appear, there must be something wrong and I can say for sure the company is in crisis. I do not think the dangerous situation of the company can bring any pleasure to the manager. In the modern management theory, the ideal organization should avoid the risk of unexpected challenge as much as possible.

In summery, because people vary from one another, the challenging job may be one man's meat but another man's poison. However, on balance, the challenge causes more people to feel stressed by proving their inability and bringing danger to their organization.
