That was the thinking until a few(two) years ago when archeologists found evidence(evident) that goes against that theory. The new idea is that farming developed in the richest land areas and people who started war- d4 c: O2 @1 ~" K/ i2 x/ g/ X

错误的,意识中不记得的,没有听清楚的,去掉的

Now let we discuss the proper way to dig for the artifacts arge logical slides(in an archaeological site位置). what's(lets) turn on our attention to the kinds of objects we might excavate挖掘,开凿 there and what they could tell us the colonial life here on the east coast of North America. One thing we hope to learn when we study the bottoms (buttons纽扣) or broken issues(dishes器皿) or other artifacts that gather(got) from the site is just how long ago people were living there. So one of the most useful finds obviously would be a coin. But even the object doen't have a year stand print(stamp right) on it can still help the archaeologists to determine just when the site be in used. Princetons(for instance), one object from 16 and 17 in hundred (1600 and 1700)you likely find is the play pipe. Smoking was common then, but not cigarettes. Tobacco was generally smoked in long thin pipes, clay pipe manufactured in England. These imported clay pipes were so cheap that even the poor could afford to use them rather than(and then) just threw them away. That's why they were so common to rap(throughout自始至终) the colonies and why we find so many broken and disguard(discard丢弃) pipes in archaeological digs. But the style of the clay pipe---the shape of bowl, the link of scan(skin), the diamaster(diameter直径) of the hole all involved over the years. So we can find siesly persise(assign seriously precise精确的) date just by looking at it and comparing it to the similar pipe we already know the age itself(of). And that information will tell us how long ago settlers were living in that site and can help us date the other artifacts found there. Let me pause here and ask you now, what you think some of the other common artifacts (objects) might be and what we might be able to learn from them

Before we continue you should understand an important concept. That is the notion of a culture area. A culture area is not a colony of artist but geographic area in h(inhabit居住于,栖息于) by different people with similar culture. A culture area is relatively consistent in terms of land features. For instance the land is completely mountains s or flats and clement(the climate).
2 s9 F3 z7 [3 Ethere are similarities in the kind of plants and animals and
settlers. I take what I call a bottom-up approach to study of the culture. That does not mean that I go to those sites or people are digging for art of that(artifact), but rather it means that I think of culture as something it grow out of the daily needs of people's life. Like finding food or protecting themselves against weather. The routines and social order that people create in order to deal with these things form the culture. So Innew(Inuit因纽特) people lived in what's now Arthlantic(Alaska阿拉斯加) people whose surroundings are cold and not feed (fit)for agriculture and who depend on fishing. You can imagine how their routines differ from Annecaci(Anasazi) people who lived in warm desert region. 8 ^3 ]4 f2 ?' }5 {% K
So if that
s clean to everyone, we can continue. So moving on, Anthropologists feel that in what is now the United States and Canada, there are 9 culture areas. We will examine all of them in the next few weeks, but for now let's start with our own area.
