How children are socialized today determines the destiny of society. Unfortunately, we have not yet learned how to raise children who can help bring about a better society." 130． 孩子们的成长决定着社会的命运。不幸的是，我们还不知道怎样抚养孩子才能使他们对将来的社会有用。
The speaker claims that the destiny of society decided by how children are socialized and we have not yet learned how to raise our children who can better to society. I tend to disagree with both aspects of this claim. To begin with, the speaker begs question by overlooking the crucial role of the environment of society that we give to child. Moreover, the claim that we have not yet how to raise the children who can better society is poorly supported by empirical evidence.
Consider the speaker’s first assertion that society’s destiny depends on how children are socialized. I concede that the child’s socialization is only a factor to destiny and when they grow up whether they better society depend on what the environment influence them. It is no denying that the child is the master of the future. If most of them are wise and friendly to each other then the society would be united. On the contrary, they become violent and merciless that the only result in the accretion of criminal rate and the retrograde of the society. So what the difference of the environment between them? The key is the environment that they live and the method of the adult teach them. Consider, on a child way to the school what he or she see is a man robbing the old lady’s property or groups of people are fighting together. In addition, after the school, the child watches the television which playing the sexual and violent program. It can be imagination what the child would to be. On the other hand, the child grows up in an environment that people are friendly to each other and the teacher and parents teach them good manner. The result must be different from the former one. In short, the environment impact on the child’s future and the child’s future decide the destiny of society.
Furthermore, the speaker ignores the other factors to the child. Though the socialization is important to a person what reflect his ability of communication, relationship with others. Other factors like honesty, selflessness, conviction and intellect also play a critical role to a child. For example, Goethe, a great German writer, who lived in riches all his life, spent over 50 years on his two-part dramatic poem Faust which was considered as one of the greatest three epics. It is the perseverance not the socialization what make him spend 50 years on a literature. Another example, Martin Luther King was a famous lawyer and leader of the Campaign of Civil Rights for Black in the United States. What makes him have the strength to against the society, the answer is his strong religious upbringing. The destiny of society is decide by what the contribution of the child to the society not only the socialization but the others character.
Consider next the speaker’s assertion that we have not yet learned how to raise children who can better society. It is unjustifiable to say that we have not yet learned the method of teaching a child to better society. What we have to do is that teach them the good characters of a great man. We tell them how to be a good citizens or effective leaders, as well as tolerant and respectful members of society. Moreover, make themselves feel the way to communicate with others and how to make a success. When they loss the direction what we should do is lead them. Finally, they would become someone who can better society.
To summarize, what the child grow up to be decide the destiny of society. The first speaker’s assertion is not complete and the child should have comprehensive quality. Base on we have learned how to raise children who can better society, the second assertion is totally wrong either.
