55.Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? One should never judge a person by external appearances. Use specific reasons and details to support your answer.
Confucius, greatest and most influential philosopher and educator of ancient China, was quoted in The Analects as saying: “Fine words and an in insinuating appearance are seldom associated with true virtue.”
For starters, it’s unfair judgment by peoples’ external appearance because they cannot choose their own exterior. We can’t say you are a very ugly person, so you must do everything neither rhyme nor reason. For instance, J. P. Morgan (1837-1913), American investment banker, considered by many the greatest financier in the history of United States business. Although he had an ugly disfigured nose and was not very good-looking, Morgan was one of the most influential men in America at the turn of last century. He was credit with helping the United States become a world economic force.
Furthermore, we often take a mistake according to the appearance to judge of a man. It is a well-known fact that numerable great statesmen were not good-looking man, yet they had great achievements. One definitely should not judge them external appearances. George Washington, one of the greatest statesmen the world has even seen, is the first president of the United States. When he was young, George Washington contracted smallpox during a trip. He bore the scars from the disease for the rest of his life. However, the unsightly scars did not detract from his greatness.
Even, it will bring on many issues if you judge a person according to his/her surface. Take my own experiences for example. Last summer, I got a chance to work as a tour guide in the Chinese National Art Museum. One day, I met a short and fat man, and there was a little of hair in his head. He walked up to me slowly and asked me some questions. I forgot the content about these questions. I didn’t reply to them and glance sideways because of he was very, very ugly, then, I left him to another place. As a result, I lost my new job. Why? Because the man was my boss. I never saw him before due to I worked at only two weeks.
In conclusion, we should treat them fairly as other people whether he/she looks very ugly or not. And avoid to taking such a mistake and some issues.
