题目是:preserve its old and historic buildings or destroy them and replace them with modern buildings?
As is evidenced in a recent statistic on the internet, the number of old and historic buildings occupied 10 percent of the city structures, and undoubtedly has the tendency of decreasing. When it comes to the old and historic buildings, people usually hold different opinions. Some people insist on that the old and historic buildings should be destroyed and replaced with the modern buildings, for the reason that they are too old to use, some new buildings are more useful to people. However, people who advocate argue that they should be preserved. As far as I am concerned, I’m for the latter because the old and historic buildings to a city what the foundation to a skyscraper.
No one can deny the fact that among the symbol of a city is its old and historic buildings. People will remember a city due to its old structures. For example, when talks about the Egypt, the first image appears in people’s mind must be the pyramid rather than its modern city. People are fond of the history and stories about the old and historic ones. If they were destroyed, the city would lose its meaning.
Another advantage can not be ignored is that the old and historical buildings are the best examples of historical education. Schools can arrange a tour to these buildings, so that the students could learn the history vividly. When I wan young, I used to take part in a visit to the Great Wall of China, l learnt much more things than what I learnt only in the books. What’s more, attractive the tourists are the old and historic buildings of the city. Many people travel to the city because of its famous old structures, where they like to spend more time on. Such as the Old Oxford University, thousands of visitors go to see it every year, only want to feel its old and historical style. Maybe the older, the better. Isn’t this is a better choice to preserve the old and historical buildings?
The modern buildings also play an important role in the city. Firstly, they stand for the rapid development of the city, for instance, the famous tower in Paris is the symbol of the industry. On the other hand, they usually are function buildings, where people can shopping, see the films and dinning in. They make people’s life more convenient.
From what has been discussed above, we could safely draw the conclusion that it’s better to preserve the old and historical buildings rather than destroyed them and replaced by modern buildings. Only though this way can we make our city more attractive. What’s more, we protect our old culture at the same time, what is good for our offspring.
