John Henry Newman think that the knowledge should like thiis:
" When I speak of Knowledge, I mean  something intellectual, something which grasps what it perceives through the senses; something which takes a view of things; which sees more than the senses convey; which reasons upon what it sees, and while it sees; which invests it with an idea."

楼主可以说人有了ambition,或者 be ambitious to do sth总是会有full of energy,而energy,也是成功的关键,我见过许多人pulling all night, working for 24h,days by days with full of energy until they make jobs  done. It is ambiton makes them to do so, and  succeed in their career eventually.
without ambition, people will never, ever succeed...........because........

Some people think that parents should plan their children’s leisure time carefully. Other people believe? that children should decide for themselves how to spend their free time, Which idea do you agree with? Give reasons for your choice.

Realistic Living
When move to the issue of lifestyle, the majority would stand with the idealism that people should live romantically. At first thought, it may seem to be an attractive idea, but it does not bear closer analysis when we find living in modern society, people should face and cope with the reality. There are numerous reasons why people should live realistically, and I would explore only a few of the most important reasons here.
No one could neglect the fact that nowadays people living in a fast-tempo society scarcely find enough time to live leisurely. People always rush and push forward by strong social force coming from the modern world, which is featured by quick development and effective operation. You will find this moment you are working near Mozi Bridge, while in next minute you will do shopping in Wal-Mart. The world changes so dramatically that people have to fasten their steps to adapt to this reality. The days have gone when in Victoria Age, English nobilities were prudish and squeamish about life in a leisure and cozy manner.
Another reason why I hold the argument that people should lead a realistic life is that I believe that only facing the reality can one know clearly who he is and where he should position in the society. It is no wonder that what quality most successful men have in common is being realistic.

What’s more, learning form reality can contribute to solution to the present problems. China’s ex-chairman, Mao Zedong ,once put this truth practiced by later followers that human should liberate mind from limitations and pursue truth from reality. Then Comrade Xiaoping, China’s general designer of open- up policy carried Mao’s theory and put it into practice, which brought prosperity to China’s market economy. Obviously, being realistic and aware of present situation should be emphasized as a sober and reasonable perspective to solve many ready matters.
However, being realistic in life dose not mean having to lead a rigid and monotonous life. Occasionally, for example, on Valentine’s Day symbolizes a different taste, which can bring daily routines sense of surprise.
All in all, I have supported the statement that it is better to be being realistic than Romanism.
Where there is a will, there is a way.

Christmas is always observed on December 25th.

Christmas is a Christian holiday celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ. Decorating houses and yards with lights, putting up Christmas trees, giving gifts, and sending greeting cards have become traditions even for many non-Christian Americans.

In the third century, efforts were made to find out the date of the Nativity, but only in the year 336 was the date of the December 25 festival set in commemoration of Jesus' birth. Pope Julius formally selected December 25 as the day of Christmas in 349 A.D.

Roman Catholics, Lutherans, members of the Dutch Reformed and Anglican churches, and those of the German sects were most responsible for establishing Christmas traditions in America. Christmas customs spread with the westward expansion of the United States and by the late 1800s had become firmly entrenched in American society.

The Christmas Tree is a German tradition, started as early as 700 A.D. In the 1800s the tradition of a Christmas tree was widespread in Germany, then moved to England and then to America through Pennsylvanian German immigrants. In Victorian times, people had already started decorating trees with candies and cakes hung with ribbon. In 1880, Woolworths first sold manufactured Christmas tree ornaments, and they caught on very quickly. Martin Luther, in the 16th century, is credited as being the first person to put candles on a tree, and the first electrically lighted Christmas tree appeared in 1882. In 1923, Calvin Coolidge ceremoniously lit the first outdoor tree at the White House.

Santa Claus started with a real person, Saint Nicholas, a minor saint from the fourth century. Nicholas' reputation for generosity and kindness gave rise to legends of miracles he performed for the poor and unhappy. In the Middle Ages, devotion to Nicholas extended to all parts of Europe, but eventually faded in all the Protestant countries of Europe except Holland, where his legend persisted as Sinterklaas (a Dutch variant of the name Saint Nicholas). Dutch colonists took this tradition with them to New Amsterdam (now New York City) in the 17th century. Sinterklaas was adopted by the country's English-speaking majority under the name Santa Claus, and his legend of a kindly old man was united with old Nordic folktales of a magician who punished naughty children and rewarded good children with presents.

The Birth of Christ

Luke 2:1-20 - King James Version

And it came to pass in those days, that there went out a decree from Caesar Augustus, that all the world should be taxed.  (And this taxing was first made when Cyrenius was governor of Syria.)  And all went to be taxed, every one into his own city.

And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judaea, unto the city of David, which is called Bethlehem; (because he was of the house and lineage of David

To be taxed with Mary his espoused wife, being great with child.

And so it was, that, while they were there, the days were accomplished that she should be delivered.

And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn.

And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night.

And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid.

And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.

For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.

And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.

And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying,

Glory to God in the highest, on earth peace, good will toward men.

And it came to pass, as the angels were gone away from them into heaven, the shepherds said one to another, Let us now go even unto Bethlehem, and see this thing which is come to pass, which the Lord hath made known unto us.

And they came with haste, and found Mary, and Joseph, and the babe lying in a manger.

And when they had seen it, they made known abroad the saying which was told them concerning this child.

And all they that heard it wondered at those things which were told them by the shepherds.

But Mary kept all these things, and pondered them in her heart.

And the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things that they had heard and seen, as it was told unto them.

prefer knowledge gained from experience or from books?

Position: knowledge gained from book is rather deep and broad, but it is necessary to be tested in reality.
          1. Books provide a sea of inf. which can illuminate or mislead people if not properly used and guided. However, direct experience lends importance to the aquaired knowlege and can prove what is right or wrong.
           2. In reality, many successful men are not well educated. eg, Gregor Mendel(孟德尔,生物学家--孟德尔遗传定律奠基人)。His significent discoveries of the law of Heredity was based on experience or experiments.
            3. In the college, Ss riching in book knolwdges do not know how to use experiments to improve them. So it is no use to master a lesson without practice.

Position: I agree that college and university should allow Ss to enroll a variety of disciplines--courses ranging from the arts and humanities to the physical and biological science.
