The reason people attend college

prepare for a career(the primary reason), have new experience(the first time to go out and meet different people) , increase their knowledge of themselves and the world around them

the relation with your parents (are they your best teachers?)



good sides: support me, give me necessary critism, teach me how to live my life.
bad sides: too close to their children emotionally( in the eyes of a protector),
          expect their children's interests to be similar to   their own.
           eager to pass on their value to their children(different generations need different ways of thinking)

the source of knowledge: which is more important, from the book or from the experience?

The most important, and sometimes the hardest lessons we learn in life come from our participation in situations.
You can't learn everything from the book.
the value of the book: learning from books in a formal educational setting is also valuable. ( we learn the imformation we need to function in our society.)
However, the most important lessons can't be taught. they have to be exprienced.

最后一段挺好的 ：This shouldn't stop us from looking for guidelines along the way. Teachers and parents are valuable sources of advice when we're young. As we enter into new stages in our lives, the advice we receive from them is very helpful because they have already had similar experience. But experincing our own triumps and disasters is really the only way to learn how to deal with life.
