Since antiquity, people have been identified by their possession as wealthy and poor before the advent of money. Then, with the merge of money, people are classified, upper, middle or low, resulting in the fact that vast numbers of people view money as most important part of their life. Confucious, the greatest and most influential philosopher and educator of ancient China was quoted in his work The Analects as saying “money, which one can never take after death, is not a part of one’s soul”.

Ok, let’s come back to the topic, should one regards money as his or her ultimate goal of life? Should people regard money as the most crucial stuff in their life? There is a general controversy about money and a comfortable life today, as to the comparison between them, some people believe that large mounts of money bring them happiness, while the opposite, on the other hand, favor a suitable living, when it comes to me, the latter proposal seems to be preferable.

Admittedly, money is significant in one’s social life, however, the way I see it, instead of much money, a comfortable life should be the ultimate goal of one’s life due of the following reasons.

  For beginners, there are several things CAN NOT exchanged by money, say, reputation. For most scientists, making more money is definitely not their motivation for science. The origin of their passion, I think, lies in their urge for a personal reputation. The example of Marie Curie is the case in point. Marie Curie, the first woman to win the Nobel Prize and also the first person to win it twice, is known for her integrity and devotion to science. Though much of her life, Curie was poor and frugal, she and her husband refused to profit from the newly-discovered chemical, radium, by not patenting on it. And they used the Noble Prize money and other financial awards to finance scientific research. Can we say money is the ultimate goal of Marie Curie? Of course not, she could go down the history owing to her discovery of radium and got reputation all over the world instead of merely being a millionaire

  Furthermore, by any standards, a comfortable living condition is good for people in terms of health both physical and mental. For instance, it is excellent to living nearby a gorgeous park, every morning on weekends, one can takes his or her beloved pet out to the park for a fresh breath, jogging or sitting, enjoy the sunshine, the shadow of the tree, the peaceful lake in center, and all these beautiful sense contribute to a harmonious atmosphere there in which one can feel relaxed and be able to relieve the academic or social stress by taking his or her mind off things that is troublesome.

  As time is running by, I’ll wrap up my essay in this way, there is no doubt that money is principal and for anyone the more the better, nevertheless, if one can not convert it into a comfortable living condition, if one lets his or her work occupy the leisure time and spare no time to enjoy the life, where does the meaning of being a millionaire lie in?
