Do you agree or disagree with the opinion that: The influence of classmates is more important than that from the parents on the children.
Children here are referred to those in the elementary school, a critical phrase for the form of one's personality and the achievement of one's self awareness. Who plays a more important role in this phrase, the parents of the children or their classmates? Admittedly that the parents are an essential factor to influence the children, their impact can not compete with the influence from the children's peers, especially when we take the personality and self-awareness into consideration.
To begin with, classmates have significant impact on the children's personality evolves. Critical as the personality is, it is much dependent on the interaction among the peers. For example, those who have a close relationship with the majority of their classmates tend to be more confident and positive than those limited to their own private life sphere. Also, a child personality may change due to the instruction of one influential classmate. Take my own experience as an example. At one time,
I was a shy girl with little self-confidence. Then I met an ambitious classmate when I was in the Grade Four. She has a very positive attitude towards life though her mother passed away when she was still an infant. Miserable as she was, she helped me with my study and asked me to be brave and confident. Thanks to her instruction and genial personality, I changed from a shy and timid child into a brave and determined girl, fearing no difficulties at all.
Classmates also play a key role in the development of the self-awareness. In the elementary school, students' self-awareness is by and large based on their academic performance, especially in China where the marks is always the key evaluation standard of one students. At the same time, the help from the classmates contributes to the progress of those who fall behind a lot. Also, if one child can immerse into the class discussion and plays an active role in the discussion, he will ultimately achieve a high mark and receive much appraises. All these identification and awards are important for the establishment of the children's self-awareness.
Nonetheless, parents have some influence on the development of children as well. Parents tutor the children after school, teach them how to behavior under various condition and share their experience with them. The children's personality is more or less related to their parents'. Also, whether the children can obtain enough care from their parents is important to their self-awareness.
To sum up, the minor influence of the parents on the children can not compete with the considerable impact brought by their classmates. All the parents should notice this point and try their best to understand their kids. And the teachers should pay attention to cultivate a suitable relationship among children as well.
